Three runaway truck ramps and more than seven miles of the grade will be repaved to enhance safety.
Once paving work starts in June, one lane will be open in each direction on the grade at all times. Larger vehicles will be stopped at the top before descending to be notified of any ramps that are closed while being resurfaced. Guadrail and signage replacements could begin in April, and all work is expected to be completed around August.
The bridge near Whitebird will be inspected and may receive repairs prior to construction on the grade. The inspection is currently scheduled for April 10-11, during which only one lane of traffic will be allowed on the bridge. Commercial traffic will be stopped at the top of the grade to be advised of activity on the bridge.
