This bridge will undergo repairs from 2021-2023 to keep it in service.
Starting June 2023, the concrete piers will be repaired, and the metal supporting structures of the bridge will be painted the same green as the railing on the adjacent bridge over Northwest Boulevard.
Work will take five months. Drivers can expect nighttime lane closures as needed, but most of the work will be completed without impacting traffic by using scaffolding and barges below the bridge.
Blackwell Island will remain accessible, but those launching kayaks or boats from the site will need to plan for congestion on the highway and respect buoys in the water.
More on constructionDuring the fall of 2022, crews replaced expansion joints that allow the bridge to expand and contract with the weather. Due to difficulty obtaining materials, the contractor wasn’t able to finish the project. The contractor began work in April 2023 to finish the railing.
