I-90: Atlas Road to Government Way

An extra eastbound lane will ease congestion and improve safety.

Expanding the eastbound section between Atlas Road and Government Way is planned for 2026 and expected to cost $9.2 million. This cost also includes adding a second lane on the Northwest Boulevard exit ramp and widening the bridge just before that exit.

Funding

Previous studies have estimated that the expansion of I-90 to a divided, six-lane roadway from state line to 15th Street in CDA could require approximately $120 million. That estimate does not include the expansion of bridges—of which there are six—easily elevating the cost another $120 million.

Due to limited funding, expansion efforts will focus on improving the most congested areas first. At this time funding has not be identified for other sections.
