Linder Road to Locust Grove Road

Linder Road to Locust Grove Road improvements are needed to promote safety and increase capacity in this growing region of Idaho.

All four lanes of Chinden Boulevard, from Linder Road to Meridian Road, are open. Motorists can expect periodic lane closures throughout the summer as crews continue work in the intersections and adjacent to the roadway. All remaining work will take place during off peak hours. Periodic flagger control at intersections is also anticipated in the evenings to complete stripping and landscaping. Locust Grove Road to Meridian is in the property acquisition negotiation phase. Construction is anticipated in 2022. All parties are committed to completing this work as soon as possible to achieve four uninterrupted lanes of traffic, two-in-each-direction, from Eagle to State Highway 16.

Background

Chinden Boulevard, a section of U.S. 20/26, is one of the few east-west commuter routes that connects Boise to Interstate 84 in Caldwell. The majority of Chinden between I-84 and Eagle Road is a two-lane rural highway. As the land around the roadway develops, Chinden is becoming a busy urban corridor, particularly between Ten Mile Road and Eagle.

Paving begins Wednesday

Paving on the south side of Chinden, from Linder to Meridian Road, begins tomorrow. When complete, this one-mile stretch of highway will be re-striped for four lanes, two in each direction, and re-open in its final configuration by early summer. The shared-used pathway on the south side of Chinden will also open at this time. Work will occur roughly between 3 am and 3 pm with additional night work in the intersections.

Left turns eliminated from Eagle Island Marketplace (Fred Meyer shopping center)

Left turns from the Eagle Island Marketplace (Fred Meyer, northeast corner of Chinden and Linder Road), including Bergman Way, will be eliminated permanently.

Eastbound Chinden traffic from Bergman will be detoured north on Bergman, west on Temple Drive and South on Linder Road, then left onto Chinden.

This change is necessary to accommodate safe traffic movement through the construction zone. Chinden in this area is limited to one lane in each direction for the remainder of construction, anticipated to complete later this summer. When completed, this segment between Linder and Meridian Road will include four travel lanes, two in each direction, with a center median restricting left turn movements from local roads.

Motorists should expect significant delays at peak travel time during construction and allow extra time to reach their destination. We appreciate your patience and remind motorists to always drive with caution through construction areas.

Additionally, Tuesday through Friday next week (May 11-14), Meridian Road traffic, south of Chinden to Director Street, will be reduced to two lanes, one in each direction, and shifted to the west side of the road to add additional capacity for northbound traffic. Night work in the intersection will also occur during this time.

April 2021

Eastbound Chinden lane reduction at Linder

Eastbound traffic at Linder is reduced from two through lanes, one dedicated right and one dedicated left, to one through-right lane and one dedicated left. See graphic below.

This configuration will remain in place for the duration of construction, anticipated for later this summer, when this segment between Linder and Meridian will open to four lanes, two in each direction, with a center median.

Eastbound motorists should expect significant delays at peak travel time and allow extra time to reach their destination. We appreciate your patience and remind motorists to always drive with caution through construction areas.

November 2020

Fox Run closure and pedestrian detours

Utility and earth work is underway on the south side of Chinden, between Fox Run Way and Meridian Road. Pedestrians in this area are detoured to the road shoulder, separated from traffic by a concrete barrier.
Fox Run Way, south of Chinden, is closed through November, from Chinden to Boulder Bar Lane, as crews remove the overhead structure, widen the roadway and connect the road with the Linder Village development.
Additionally, the sidewalk on the west side of Fox Run is closed. The east side sidewalk is open for pedestrian use.
