I-84, Jerome to Twin Falls

The Idaho Transportation Department is designing improvements along I-84 between the South Jerome Interchange and the Twin Falls Interchange. I-84 serves as a major corridor through south-central Idaho and beyond, with traffic counts expected to increase substantially over the next 20 years. The purpose of this project is to increase capacity and improve safety on I-84.

Schedule

ITD anticipates that design for the improvements will be completed by late 2022.

Once funding has been identified, construction can start as early as 2023.

Project Overview

ITD is currently designing improvements to I-84 between the South Jerome Interchange (exit 168) and the Twin Falls Interchange (exit 173). This project is part of Idaho Governor Brad Little’s “Leading Idaho” transportation funding solution.

Improvements include:

  • Adding a third travel lane in both directions
  • Replacing the 400 S Road bridges
  • Constructing drainage facilities for the increased pavement surface

These improvements will tie in to the design plans currently in process for the Jerome Interchange.

Leading Idaho

This project is being funded with Transportation Expansion and Congestion Mitigation (TECM) funds as part of the Leading Idaho TECM Program. The program allows ITD to accelerate project timelines to address rapid growth and build critical infrastructure today that would otherwise take many years to fund and build.

More on TECM funding
