ITD is currently completing plans to replace the South Jerome Interchange as a separate project. This project will not impact the S. Jerome or Twin Falls interchanges. These improvements will tie into those design and construction plans.
The Idaho Transportation Department is designing improvements along I-84 between the South Jerome Interchange and the Twin Falls Interchange. I-84 serves as a major corridor through south-central Idaho and beyond, with traffic counts expected to increase substantially over the next 20 years. The purpose of this project is to increase capacity and improve safety on I-84.

Improvements include:
These improvements will tie in to the design plans currently in process for the Jerome Interchange.
This project is being funded with Transportation Expansion and Congestion Mitigation (TECM) funds as part of the Leading Idaho TECM Program. The program allows ITD to accelerate project timelines to address rapid growth and build critical infrastructure today that would otherwise take many years to fund and build.

In 2020, ITD began work to rehabilitate I-84 between milepost 166 and 173. This work included rebuilding existing travel lanes, increased ramp lengths at interchanges and improved lighting.
ITD plans to add a third lane in the median. The new pavement placed in 2020 will be utilized as much as possible.
It is anticipated that I-84 will be able to remain open during most of the project. If lane closures are needed, they will be at night or during non-peak hours.
This project will require closures on 400 S Road. ITD will open 400 S Road intermittently when possible. Motorists will be directed to Golf Course Road or S 200 E as an alternate route.
Fall 2021 – Spring 2022: Develop preliminary design plans and environmental evaluation
Summer 2022: Present design plans to the community and gather input at public meeting
Late 2022: Complete final design plans
2023: Begin construction*
*Once funding has been identified, construction could start as early as 2023.
