Project Fact Sheet

I-84 westbound on-ramp to Boise will be closed at Exit 90 in Mountain Home on Tuesday, Sept. 26

Traveling from Mountain Home to Boise? Closure ahead!

ITD will close the westbound on-ramp at the West Mountain Home Interchange (Exit 90) from 3 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 26. This closure will allow crews to pour concrete on the bridge deck over I-84, which was delayed last week due to weather conditions. All traffic heading westbound to Boise will be detoured to Exit 95 in Mountain Home.

What to expect during construction:

  • Speed limits will be reduced.
  • Flaggers or signals may direct traffic.
  • Lane restrictions will be in place. Most work requiring lane restrictions will be done at night.

ITD is performing maintenance on:

  1. West Mountain Home Interchange (Exit 90)
  2. Canyon Creek Road Overpass
  3. North Mountain Home Interchange (Exit 95)
  4. Old Oregon Trail Rd Interchange (Exit 99)
  5. North Hammett Interchange (Exit 112)
  6. I-84B over UPRR
  7. Cold Springs Interchange (Exit 114)

Bridge work will be coordinated to ensure drivers have accessible routes throughout the project area.

West Mountain Home Interchange (Exit 90)

At the West Mountain Home Interchange (Exit 90), ITD is replacing the bridge deck and repairing bridge joints to prolong the life of the structure. Here’s what to expect at the bridge:

  • The westbound off-ramp is closed for an extended period of time.
  • Only one lane is open across the bridge above I-84 and flaggers are directing traffic.
  • Intermittent daytime lane restrictions will occur for an extended period of time.

North Mountain Home Interchange (Exit 95)

At the North Mountain Home Interchange (Exit 95), ITD will place an epoxy overlay and repair the bridge deck. I-84 will be closed overnight, and motorists will use the off- and on-ramps to exit and re-enter I-84.

I-84B over UPRR

ITD will remove the asphalt overlay from the I-84B Bridge over the Union Pacific Railroad, apply an epoxy overlay and repair the bridge joints to prolong the life of the structure. The bridge will be reduced to one lane with flaggers directing traffic.

Cold Springs Interchange (Exit 114)

At the Cold Springs Interchange (Exit 114), ITD is replacing bridge joints and placing a concrete overlay to prolong the life of the road. I-84 is restricted to one lane during the day and night for approximately 2 weeks.

Why is ITD resurfacing the I-84B bridge over UPRR?
Why is ITD resurfacing the I-84B bridge over UPRR?

Crews built the new bridge over the railroad in 2019. The overlay on the bridge did not set up correctly and ITD needs to remove and replace the overlay.

Why is ITD replacing the joints that were recently placed at the Cold Springs Interchange?
Why is ITD replacing the joints that were recently placed at the Cold Springs Interchange?

The joints placed in 20XX failed and must be replaced. Joints are placed between the bridge and the roadway to improve safety and extend the service life of the bridge.
